I had great fun and enjoyed seeing so many U.S. Fans at the shows and also, enjoying American Holiday Spirit in the air! I hope you will enjoy my reports... Here is the November 19th report - 1st U.S. show of my visit!:

I'm going to see Shonen Knife in the U.S.A.! I left New Tokyo International Airport (Narita), departing at noon of the 19th November. Flying to JFK Airport, where I arrived in local daytime on the 19th. It takes 12 hours and 30 minutes from Japan to JFK in NY and the time difference is -14 hours. The temperature of New York is almost the same as Tokyo. My best friend Frank Perri, New York Shonen Knife fan came by car. I will chase Shonen Knife with him for one week again! We followed their tour the same in 2005.

11/19 Blender Theater/ New York, NY:

We went to the Blender Theater theater by car. Before we entered there, we had eaten Greek fast foods. I ate vegetables wrap. The ID card and the bag were shown to security guard at the entrance. My plastic bottle was thrown away. A very big place there and it seemed still to look new. I met one of my Shonen Knife cyber-friends, Bill. He had come from North Carolina by car. The last tour we met with him. When "Verona Grove" of the opening band was performing, I found a Shonen Knife member at the entrance. And I wished to see Naoko. She showed me to the dressing room. I presented the warm pad and the instant noodles for their long tour (energy food!). We chatted happily until "The Juliet Dagger" started their show.

Shonen Knife played from around 11 p.m.

Here is their setlist:

1. He was a big help to everyone when former support drummer Mana died, so it might be thanks from Naoko. I have advised Naoko a little, for their setlist of this tour. I thought about 18 tunes in the setlist. The most (16 tunes) was same idea as Naoko.

They have a lot of live shows in Japan, but it is not a lot in the US. They periodically release a new CD in Japan, but it is not always released in the US. It seems that time stops with US fans. They just grow older, so. Shonen Knife would be better known if they were booked to play to some U.S. rock festivals. There they would win many new fans!
This is my little opinion..
BUT, Tunes that have not been released in the US, like "Ramones Forever", and "Giant Kitty" - these tunes were hot with the crowd!

Next Report: ~ Live in Philadelphia... vegetables wrap, Blender Theater, dressing room and stage!

KAPPA EXPRESS Report by:
PLKC Mamiko Nakagawa

Kappa EXpress News - Return to Mamiko's Kappa EXpress News Page!

Heartfriends of Shonen Knife - Return to Mamiko's Index Page
