By now, the Girls have made their way to the west coast! Mamiko and I had a great time here when they were on our side (of the country)! We hit the New York, Brooklyn, Philly, Washington, DC and Boston shows! Whew! A lot of driving and 5 days of great music! If my schedule permitted, I'd fly out to Seattle to catch the last show. Promotion seemed somewhat lacking as crowds were kinda lackluster at some venues.. but I hope they're getting a better response in California. Both Mamiko and I recall them playing to much better crowds in 2005, but this time around Robin and Sean (road managers for Shonen Knife) weren't really responsible for this tour. Personally, I wished they would have started Midwest first where the cities aren't that big so they could create a bit of a buzz before hitting New York!

I've enclosed a picture of Mamiko and me with the band when they were on the East Coast. I'd like to thank Robin and Sean especially - who went out of their way to accommodate us! Take care, and keep on Rockin'!"

Frank Perri, NYC

Bill Olding! I was there to see "Wonder Wine" performed by my request in NY, PA, and D.C. I am so impressed that they kindly granted my humble request. Seeing Naoko san, Atsuko san, and Etsuko san is always such a treat. They make me so happy! And going to more than one show allowed me to hear some rare songs. This year the set list changed just a little from show to show. This is no doubt because the band membership has been constant for a long enough time to be comfortable with more songs.

Naoko, Atsuko and Etsuko are such wonderful people! They put on a terrific, energetic show and then they meet and greet fans after the show - for as long as it takes. They are so patient with people taking pictures and asking for autographs. Some highlights for me - besides hearing my favorite "Wonder Wine" three times: quietly talking with Atsuko away from the lines; seeing their smiles for my gifts; hearing "Ah Singapore" from the stage monitors in PA; witnessing the "very rare beef sushi" joke in PA; having my picture taken with everyone; talking with Naoko about the songs on the new "FUN FUN FUN" album (I order Shonen Knife cd's from stores in Japan when they are not available in the US); and meeting the staff supporting the tour (especially Miyoko at the merch table).

Of course, another great highlight was sharing the experience with Mamiko N., who came over from Yokohama to see the beginning of the tour. Frank P. was there too from NY, and we had a great time at each venue. As Naoko mentioned in the .net forum, Mamiko has become something of an ambassador for Shonen Knife fans in the USA.

Since the shows, I have not listened to music on the radio. I have been enjoying the virtual juke box in my head, as memories of so many great songs take turns playing over and over in my mind. There are no words to describe how very special Shonen Knife are to me. Their music makes me happy all through the year. And all the people I meet because of them are special as well. I felt "On Top Of The World" during the whole week!

Domo Arigato for a wonderful time!! Domo Arigato for touring the US!! I wish you great times for the rest of the tour!
Bill O.
Raleigh, NC

"Captain Purple": photo report from the Black Cat in Washington D.C. 11/4/07

Here are a few photos from the Black Cat in Washington D.C., November 24, 2007!

That's all for now, Fans.
